Mental Health Crisis…why?
America finds itself in a mental health crisis. Does it surprise you? I can’t speak for everyone else, but I’ll tell you a little something about me that may give you some insight into why we find ourselves here, and some effective tools to combat it.
The last several months have been extremely difficult for my family and I. We are having to care for my dad who is very ill with an aggressive lung cancer. This has been the most difficult thing I have ever been through. But lets rewind: I have lost siblings, aunts, friends of all ages to cancer. They have been extreme traumas that I did NOT cope with well. Several panic attacks later I found myself in a much different place than I am now. Fast forward to this very moment. I’m sitting in my dad’s hospital room writing this blog, I’m sad, my heart is broken, but I’m ok. We are all ok, and we all will be ok. This is not to say we aren’t broken humans trying to navigate a LOT of heavy emotions. There are times the emotions get the better of us and we don’t deal with them well.
But why, why am I not back to the anxious, panic attack state of mind? I’m not going to sit here and tell you that breathing in an oil, breathing deeply, and taking this or that supplement is why I’m ok. I’m not going to sit here and tell you I can just pray, and all my worries disappear. It’s SO much more than just those three things.
Let’s break it down.
Every day, I take an adaptiv capsule and a copaiba capsule. Adaptiv allows my neurotransmitters (those messengers from the brain to the body) to function properly. This allows my limbic system and nervous system to function in times of high stress, less focus, and sad moments. Copaiba just calms the nervous system. Think of it like CBD without all the weird side effects.
I also use aromatherapy and deep breathing to calm my body down. A few drops of balance oil on the bottom of my feet, and deep breathing the oil blend through my nose, and out through my mouth each day help me instantly.
The gut. You can look anywhere online and read about the gut/brain connection. It is SO important that gut is in a healthy way, so that it can supply the brain with the right nutrients to function properly during times of stress. I do this daily, without fail. Not only for my brain, but for my overall health in general. I’m doing everything I can to NOT be one of the next people on that “cancer list”.
I saved the most important for last. The above holistic tools saved my life. My PHYSICAL life. Thank goodness God has placed these things on the earth for us to utilize when needed. I want to focus on what saved my SOUL. I did seek out faith based counseling when life calmed down a bit. I was still struggling a bit with anxiety and couldn’t quite figure out why. I was physically doing very well. I was no longer having panic attacks. But there was still this tiny amount of “angst” my brain was holding on to and I needed to figure it out.
Lets fast forward again. After leaving with a deeper understanding of what Grace truly is…I’m free.
With the help of supplementing, my physical body is free from anxiety and nervous system dysfunction. With the help of Christ and His amazing sacrifice, and ALL that brings to us when He is in our life, I am living victoriously.
So here I sit, with dad. Sad, and brokenhearted but I’m ok. Ill be ok. I so want this for the world. Quality nutrition going in our body, and the hope and freedom of Jesus Christ in the depths of our soul.
